Sedation Dentistry in Omaha

I.V. Sedation Dentistry

Anxiety, nervousness and fear of pain keep many from receiving care that can save or create a smile that can beam more confidently. Dr. Henley is certified in I.V. sedation dentistry. From extensive esthetic or restorative treatment and surgical care to those with extreme anxiety, I.V. sedation dentistry can provide complete treatment comfort. Sedation dentistry patients will not remember or recollect any portions of their treatment in the sedated state.

You may not remember much about your sedation dentistry treatment because of two things: first, in most sedation dentistry patients, IV sedation induces a deep relaxation and a feeling of not being worried by what’s going on. Second, the medicine used for IV sedation dentistry can create either partial or complete memory loss (amnesia) for the sedation dentistry treatment appointment – from when the drug first starts to work in until it wears off. As a result, time appears to pass very rapidly and you will not remember much, or perhaps nothing at all, about the sedation dentistry appointment. So it may, indeed, feel like you were “asleep” during sedation dentistry.

IV sedation dentistry is very safe when carried out under the supervision of an I.V. sedation-trained dentist. Statistically, it’s even safer than having a local anaesthetic on its own!

However, sedation dentistry may not be the right choice for patients with conditions such as: pregnancy, a known allergy to benzos, continued alcohol intoxication, CNS depression, and some cases of glaucoma. Other red flags include psychosis, impaired lung or kidney or liver function, and advanced age. Heart disease is generally not a reason to avoid sedation dentistry.
